Mother Earth - what would she have us do?
Happy Earth Day 2021 !
I am grateful for this day, created in the seventies, and celebrated for fifty decades, but we still have a lot to do.
All of us can do our part, even if it seems small. Let me share some of the things I do personally, to help the planet, apart from selling sustainable print materials since 2003.
About Food: If I must order food from a restaurant, I ask if it comes in recycled packaging. If it doesn't, I cancel my order and I tell them why. Yes, I make them feel bad a little. And yes, they just lost a customer, because of environmental unfriendly packaging strategies.
About Recycling: I recently moved to Hamilton, Montana, where I grew up. People here live an active lifestyle, mostly outside surrounded by mountains, birds in the sky and fresh air. When it came time for us to recycle our bottles, paper and plastic, I was surprised to find out, that there was no organisation, no city, county, no state program enacted. So we collect our recyclables in the garage and drive them 27 miles to the next recycle station.
About Travel: Do I really have to go? Is it necessary to fly? Could I drive instead? We all had a horrible year, sitting at home, feeling stuck. I hear you. But let's think about Mother Earth. What would she have us do?
